Project Blue Book Case File
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF., August 1952August 1952
Summary
On August 2, 1952, at 2:35 a.m. Pacific Daylight time, a civilian woman at California and Powell Streets in San Francisco reported an unidentified object to the northwest. She watched it for about one minute. She described it as a very bright light, about three times as bright as a star, and said it was not moving. She said it could not be a light on a building and judged it to be very high in the sky, about 85 degrees elevation.
The woman reported that the stars and moon were not visible because of a high fog layer. Weather records noted winds at 10,000 feet from about 160 degrees at 9 knots and at 20,000 feet from about 200 degrees at 23 knots. There was no physical evidence, no photos, no identification action, and no aircraft reported in the area.
The woman told the Air Force that a naval station said it was conducting training in the area and refused to take her information. Project 10073 is the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The preparing officer wrote that no information was available to identify the object, and the record card lists the conclusion as unknown.
