Summary

On July 19, 1952, near Rock Island, Illinois, a civilian man observed a brilliant object over the Mississippi River. The object appeared in the southern horizon and rose to 22 degrees in 2 seconds. Three minutes later, a twin-engined aircraft approached from the east with one landing light on. The witness was a member of a local astronomy club. The weather was clear and visibility exceeded 15 miles. The sighting occurred at 9:41 p.m. central time on August 24, 1952, according to one time reference in the report.
