Summary

On August 26, 1958, a civilian woman in Ridgefield, Washington, reported an unidentified flying object at about dusk. She described a little round ball of fire, yellowish-white in color, slightly larger than a bright star, with a long tail. It was seen in the southeast and moved straight down, disappearing behind bushes on the horizon before she could tell someone else in the room to look. The sighting was very short.

Weather was clear with 15-mile visibility. The report came from Portland International Airport. The Air Force conclusion on the Project 10073 record card was astronomical, noting the description, color, and flight path were very characteristic of a meteorite seen during daylight or dusk hours. Project 10073 was the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
