PORTE DE FRANCE P R, October 1952October 1952
Summary
On October 27, 1952, a commercial airline flight crew sighted a glowing object west of Fort de France, in the Caribbean. The report came from an aircraft cruising at about 11,500 feet on a heading of 150 degrees.
The object was described as luminous and green. It was seen due west of the plane at about 20 degrees above the aircraft's sight level. It appeared bright and seemed to fall rapidly straight down toward the surface.
The object fell into a cumulus cloud at an estimated 5,000 feet and lit up the cloud. The time from first sight until it entered the cloud was about 3 seconds. The pilot's account was verified by the co-pilot. Weather showed cumulus clouds with bases at 2,000 feet and tops at 5,000 feet.
The Air Force record card lists the conclusion as insufficient data for evaluation. The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
