Summary

On August 26, 1958, a civilian and his wife in the Park Ridge, Illinois, area (home in Tinley Park, Illinois) reported an unidentified flying object between 9:58 and 10:05 p.m. The man, an engineer, first saw a strange light to the west at about 45 degrees. He got binoculars and watched it pass in front of the full moon. He described the front as cigar-shaped, while the rear looked like a jet stream. The colors were red, white, and orange, and it was about three times as bright as the moon. No sound was heard. The object disappeared in the east. The total travel took about 3 minutes.

Weather was clear with unlimited visibility. The Air Force conclusion on the Project 10073 record card was that an aircraft sighting was possible. Project 10073 was the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
