Summary

On July 1, 1955, near Palm Beach, Florida, a civilian witness reported a single conical, white light with a tail. The Air Force recorded the report under Project 10073, its official record for unidentified flying object reports.

The light tapered smoothly to a point and looked blue-white in color. It appeared at about 10 degrees above the horizon, rose to 130 degrees, then disappeared at 10 degrees on the other side. The witness was described as reliable.

The Air Force noted the object crossed a major part of the sky in about 10 to 15 seconds. Because of this, officials concluded the witness probably saw a meteor. The case was marked as probably astronomical.
