Project Blue Book Case File
Oakridge, Eugene, OregonNovember 1959
Summary
On the night of November 1, 1959, several civilians, including state police officers, saw an object from the areas of Oakridge, Government Camp, and Eugene, Oregon. The sighting lasted nearly two hours.
The object was cigar-shaped, about 6 to 8 times as long as it was wide, in a vertical position. It had red lights at its ends and an extremely bright white light in the center that may have been flashing. One observer compared it to a blimp. Reports of its position and direction of drift conflicted between the different observers.
The object was reported to a fighter squadron, but no interception was attempted because of poor weather, and radar detected no return. Northern Lights, Venus, and other bright stars were visible. Observers at Oakridge and Eugene decided that Venus was the object they had seen. The Air Force record card lists the case as astronomical, identified as Venus. This was part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
