Project Blue Book Case File
Northern Ohio, October 1958October 1958
Summary
In October 1958, pieces of tinfoil were found on the ground in northern Ohio. A civilian mailed a sample to the Air Technical Intelligence Center and asked for an explanation. He said the material appeared to have fallen from the sky.
The Air Force studied the sample. A physical analysis showed the objects were chaff. Chaff is made of aluminum foil and is dropped from aircraft during training to confuse enemy radar.
The Air Force replied that chaff is often found in areas of the United States where such training is conducted. The case was concluded as chaff. This case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
