Summary

On the evening of June 28, 1963, residents of North Branford, Connecticut, reported seeing a bright white object moving erratically across the night sky. The object appeared circular with a yellowish tinge and was visible for approximately 32 minutes. According to the witnesses, it changed brightness, moved at an estimated 900 miles per hour, and at one point reversed direction while maintaining the same altitude. The object produced no sound and eventually disappeared behind clouds.

The Air Force investigation included interviews with two witnesses and requested additional details through a standard questionnaire. The case file reveals that the investigating officers considered several possible explanations. The brief summary noted the sighting could have been a balloon, aircraft, star, or planet, and attributed some of the object's apparent motion to the movement of clouds rather than actual motion by the object itself.

Ultimately, the Air Force determined there was insufficient data for a definitive evaluation. The case remained unresolved, with no clear conclusion as to what the witnesses observed that night. The full case file, comprising 26 pages, is reproduced below as held by the National Archives.
