Project Blue Book Case File
New York, N. Y., October 1958October 1958
Summary
On October 17, 1958, at about 11:35 p.m., a civilian in New York City reported a round object in the sky. He telephoned an investigating office the next day to describe what he saw.
The object was round, as large as the head of a pin, and blood red in color. It was about 500 feet above the ground. It appeared to be on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River. It stayed in sight for a few minutes. The weather was overcast but visibility was good.
The witness had no additional information to offer, and no further investigation was conducted. The Air Force record notes the information was very limited but suggested the object could have been a light on some tall structure. This case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
