Summary

On June 18, 1954, a civilian witness in New York saw a round, metallic object from the roof of a five-story building. The sighting lasted 10 to 15 seconds. The object looked oval and metallic. It moved on a straight course from southwest to northeast with no sound.

The witness estimated the speed between 400 and 700 miles per hour but could not judge the altitude. The witness assumed it was high up because it reflected the rays of the setting sun. The sky was clear at early twilight.

The Air Force record card suggested the object was probably a meteor. It noted that the reported duration or speed seemed to be in error, but said there was not enough data for a firm conclusion.
