Project Blue Book Case File
N Of Seoul, Korea, November 1957November 1957
Summary
On November 5, 1957, four enlisted soldiers of a tank battalion north of Seoul, Korea, reported an object around 4:50 p.m. local time. The sighting was a ground visual observation that lasted about three minutes. The witnesses were military personnel.
The object was bluish white and glowing, reminding two witnesses of a light bulb. Its reported size varied widely, from a 55 gallon drum to an egg, and from one yard to 100 yards long. It hovered close to the ground, with a reflection visible in the water of nearby rice paddies. It dived toward the ground, rose again, and then disappeared as if a light bulb had been switched off. The sky was cloudy with high scattered clouds.
This case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The reporting radar intelligence officer said the description sounded similar to a weather balloon, noting words like hovering and settling, though he had no record of a balloon in the area. The Air Force noted the report was similar to many sightings of balloons with lights from troops around the world.
