Summary

On June 8, 1958, just after midday, north of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a civilian reported a single object in the daytime sky. The sighting lasted about 15 minutes. The object was flat and triangular with rounded corners, about the size of a shirt button held at arm's length, and black in color. There was no tail, trail, or sound. The witness, a technical illustrator, saw it climb steadily in a straight course for about five minutes, hover briefly, then descend, travel west and upward, and disappear. The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force concluded the description and flight matched the observation of a balloon release.
