Summary

On the morning of May 23, 1949, military personnel at Moses Lake Air Force Base in Washington reported a single silver object high in the sky. Witnesses said it looked very small from the ground, was silver in color, and was moving at a high rate of speed. It stayed in view for about one to one and a half minutes, flying a straight and level course before it went out of sight. Observers estimated the object was 8 to 10 miles from the base, at an altitude of 10,000 to 15,000 feet. There was no sound and no trail, and the weather was clear. One observer thought the object was moving too fast to be an aircraft. After reviewing the report, the Air Force concluded that it was most likely an aircraft, a C-31 transport plane, noting that nothing in the report ruled out a conventional aircraft.
