Summary

On January 17, 1954, a black object was reported near Morris, South Australia. The witness was a commercial traveler. The sighting began at 1810 (6:10 p.m.) and lasted about 15 minutes.

The man first saw the object in the east at about 45 degrees elevation, where it appeared to be stationary. He said it looked like two saucers joined together by a span. There was a single object. It then flew west, turned north, and finally appeared to drop from view.

The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force concluded there was insufficient data for evaluation. A note in the file mentioned that another person who had seen the report in a newspaper had been flying a box kite, though the witness was firm that what he saw was not a box kite.
