Project Blue Book Case File
Montevideo, Uruguay, [ILLEGIBLE] 1958Circa 1958
Summary
In October 1958, several witnesses near Montevideo, Uruguay, reported an object in the sky. The report reached the Air Force through an air attache and was studied by the Air Technical Intelligence Center.
The information supplied was very limited. The facts that were included pointed strongly toward a fireball, which is a meteor of unusual size and brightness. The report notes that fireballs can change color during flight, ranging through white, blue, green, orange, red, yellow, pink, and purple. Fireballs are rare, and most people see only one or two in a lifetime.
The Air Force concluded the object was astronomical. It stated the witnesses in nearly all cases observed a fireball. The report notes that the limited information left one witness account unexplainable, and that more data could have allowed a clearer answer.
