Summary
On February 9 to 10, 1959, a civilian in Miami, Florida, reported lights in the night sky. The sighting was between about 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. local time (0430Z to 0530Z) and lasted about 10 minutes. The witness watched with field glasses.
The observer described about six round objects, each with a red flashing light, moving in trail formation. They approached from the north, high in the sky. Two headed south, while four remained in the area maneuvering before also heading south. No sound was heard.
The Air Force concluded the objects were aircraft. The record card said the sighting was confirmed as refueling operations. Air traffic control reported numerous B-47 aircraft flying over Miami while landing at nearby Homestead Air Force Base, and the operation was confirmed.
