Summary
On April 15, 1952, near Memphis, Tennessee, two U.S. Navy pilots reported an unidentified flying object. The sighting happened at 1334 (1:34 p.m.) while the pilots were flying over the Naval Air Station range station.
The pilots described one object shaped like an inverted bowl with slots running from top to bottom. They estimated it was about 3 feet long and 1 foot high. It was bright in color, moved at a rapid pace, and had a red, glowing exhaust trail. The object made no maneuvers and no sound was heard. It was on a heading of about 200 degrees at roughly 2,000 feet.
The object passed about 100 yards from the aircraft and stayed in view for 45 to 60 seconds. The weather was reported as overcast at about 4,200 feet with 15 miles visibility. On the Air Force record card, the case was marked Unknown.
