Project Blue Book Case File
Massilon, OhioJuly 1958
Summary
On July 9, 1958, two observers near Massillon, Ohio, reported an unidentified flying object at about 11:21 p.m. local time. One witness was a civilian and one was a military ground observer. They described one white, star-shaped object that they said was about 10 feet long. It appeared very high and moved in a zig-zag path toward the southeast, where it faded out. The sighting lasted about 5 minutes.
Investigators noted several inconsistencies in the report. An object said to be 10 feet long at arm's length would have filled the viewer's whole field of vision, yet the witness said it was very high. The witness also could not say what first drew his attention to it. Weather was clear with good visibility. The Air Force conclusion on the Project 10073 record card was insufficient data, and the cause was listed as undetermined. Project 10073 was the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
