Summary

On September 16, 1951, at 1217 (12:17 p.m.) Eastern Standard Time, a civilian pilot flying a Cessna near Marion, Ohio, reported a near miss with an object. He was at 2,800 feet on a heading of 230 degrees, about 3 miles north and east of Marion.

The pilot said an object with a high tail, 45 degree swept back wings, a long pointed nose, and painted black came toward him on a nearly opposite heading. He said he barely escaped colliding with it. No sound was reported. The Air Force evaluated the case as a probable aircraft sighting.
