Marietta, OhioNovember 1953
Summary
On November 20, 1953, at about 3:30 a.m. near Marietta, Ohio, three civilians reported one object. They were driving west on US Route Alternate 50, about ten miles west of Marietta and close to the Wood County Airport. All three watched the object's flight.
The object was luminous and moved slowly from east to west. It was estimated to be about 1,500 feet to their side and about 8,000 to 10,000 feet high. It then made about a 30 degree turn to the south and sped rapidly out of sight. Because of its glow and the distance, the witnesses could not tell its shape or size. They felt it was not a normal aircraft.
The Air Force record notes the report was made to a special investigations office. An officer reviewed the information and decided it was not enough to warrant further inquiry. No further action was planned.
