Summary

On the night of September 5, 1959, numerous people near Malden, Missouri, watched a light in the sky for over an hour. The object changed color from white to red to green. It moved slowly to the northwest. It was first seen about 60 degrees above the horizon and was still in sight when the report ended.

The object appeared as a light only, with no sound. A temperature inversion was present at the time. Skies were clear.

The Air Force concluded the case was probably astronomical. The card says the color change, direction, and slow apparent movement, seen through the inversion, fit an astronomical body. The exact star or planet could not be determined. This was part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
