Summary

On November 9, 1957, at 10:01 a.m., a civilian in Makanda, Illinois reported seeing one round object colored red to blue, very high in the sky. The object had no tail or exhaust and made no sound. It moved in a zigzag pattern and was visible for 15 minutes before going out of sight. The witness observed the object traveling in a south-southwest direction. The Air Force noted that information was very limited and concluded the sighting was possibly astronomical, consistent with the planet Venus according to astro tables and computer analysis.
