Summary

On July 26, 1956, a civilian in Macon, Georgia, reported a single object in the sky. The sighting was recorded at 0230Z (in the early morning hours).

The witness described one round ball of fire with two long tails. It was about the size of a basketball held at arm's length. The color was bright orange with white in it and red toward the tail. The object moved very fast in a straight path from northeast to southwest. It was in view for three to five seconds before it disappeared behind trees.

The report came through the commander at Dobbins Air Force Base, Georgia. The Air Force concluded that all details pointed to a meteor. The evaluation was astronomical (meteor). This case was part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
