Project Blue Book Case File
LOGANSVILLE, OHIOOctober 1953
Summary
On the evening of October 31, 1953, a couple near Logansville, Ohio saw a bright, moving object in the night sky. The husband noticed it first and called his wife outside to look. She caught only a faint glow disappearing to the south, but her husband saw the object more clearly.
The object traveled from east to west at what the witnesses estimated was about 400 miles per hour. It then made an abrupt turn and headed south, moving very fast. The witnesses described it as large and round, with a glow that looked like "a lot of lights" or "a million electric light bulbs." The sighting lasted only seconds.
The husband filled out a detailed Air Force questionnaire about the sighting on November 4, 1953. He stated he was certain about the object's direction of travel and its speed. He drew sketches showing the object's path and described it as bright and glowing. When asked what he thought the object might have been, his written response is difficult to read in the declassified file.
The Air Force evaluated this sighting as a meteor, and the case form notes that it should be "regarded as an illusion." No further investigation details appear in the file.
The complete case file, as held by the National Archives, is reproduced below in its 11 pages.
