Summary

On the night of July 8, 1954, civilian witnesses aboard a moving train near Lock, Nevada, saw a round object about the size of a grapefruit. The sighting lasted about 7 minutes. The object had a yellow glow with two dim red lights on its right side. It was bright until it disappeared, then dimmed.

The object moved in an unusual wavy pattern to the west, stayed still for a few minutes, dropped several hundred feet to the south, then bounced up and down before returning to its first position. It faded and disappeared over the horizon. The witnesses watched from the caboose of the train. The night was clear and calm.

No air traffic was reported in the area. The Air Force record card listed the object as a probable balloon.
