Project Blue Book Case File
Little Rock, Ark., March 1950March 1950
Summary
On March 17, 1950, around 4:30 p.m., a flight operator preparing to land at Adams Field in Little Rock, Arkansas, reported one or more objects. He was about 500 feet up in the landing pattern. He first thought he saw a large plane, then it looked like a formation of P-51 fighters, but he did not think it was a P-51. He described the object or objects as round or octagonal and black or dark against the setting sun, at about a 30 degree angle above the horizon and roughly 10 to 15 miles away.
The object was first seen flying southeast, then made a sudden turn to the southwest. He watched for about two minutes before his wing blocked his view. There was no sound, odor, trail, or visible projection. The observer was described as 50 years old, an experienced pilot with good vision and a good reputation. A student pilot with him said he could not honestly say he saw the objects because he was focused on landing.
The report came through Army channels and included weather data and local flight schedules.
