Project Blue Book Case File
Lincoln Park, MichiganSeptember 1960
Summary
On September 10, 1960, a resident of Lincoln Park, Michigan reported seeing a blue and white light moving across the night sky. The object traveled slightly to the left and then to the right, staying level as it moved, and the witness described it as traveling very fast. The object then climbed upward with what appeared to be a glowing exhaust.
The witness claimed to have photographed the object and submitted a roll of film for analysis. When developed, the photographs contained only images of a car engine, garage, and houses. Roughly half of the film was underexposed, and the Air Force determined there was insufficient data to evaluate the photographs.
The Air Force sent the witness a detailed technical questionnaire asking for information about the sighting, including the time of observation, his location, how long he watched the object, and detailed descriptions of its appearance and movement. The questionnaire also requested photographic data such as camera make and model, lens type, film type, shutter speed, and lens opening (f-stop). This information was requested so that the Air Force could forward the original negatives and technical details to the Aerospace Technical Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for analysis and evaluation.
The file does not state a final conclusion about what the object was. The full case file, as held by the National Archives, is reproduced below across 15 pages.
