Project Blue Book Case File
Lake County, OhioNovember 1957
Summary
On November 7, 1957, witnesses in Lake County, Ohio, reported objects in the sky. Several people made reports, which were collected by local Civil Defense officials. One woman reported a bright object around 6:30 a.m. that was round, very low, and much larger than an airplane, with no vapor trail or noise. It was in sight only a few minutes before it rose straight up.
A man driving near Painesville said he saw an object pass before him that seemed to split into two parts, one rising and one landing on a knoll about 500 feet from the road. He stopped his car, but when he later returned with his wife, the object was gone. He described it as bluish green with a metallic look, shaped like a Mexican hat, and about 30 feet across. He said it made a quiet humming sound. He explained he had stayed away for a day out of fear of ridicule.
This case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. A Civil Defense official reported taking radiation readings at the landing site and on a nearby car. The Air Force comments are partly garbled but indicate no firm investigation conclusion was reached.
