Project Blue Book Case File
Killeen, TexasNovember 1954
Summary
A dark brown sphere was spotted near Killeen, Texas in November 1954 by military personnel stationed at a nearby Army installation. The object was observed for about two and a half minutes. Witnesses initially thought it might be a balloon, and the object moved at rapid speed without making any sound.
An Air Force investigation followed, involving officers from both Fort Hood, Texas (a major Army post adjacent to Killeen) and Killeen Air Base. The investigation included review of balloon activity in the general area at the time of the sighting. The Air Force found evidence of some organizational training with what might account for luminous objects in the area, but no other reports of similar sightings were found at either station.
The Air Force concluded that the object was likely a balloon. However, the file noted that aside from the single sighting described as balloon-like, other luminous-object reports had caused some concern in intelligence circles.
This case file remains challenging to fully interpret due to OCR quality issues in several sections, and some portions are too garbled to provide complete details. The full case file is reproduced below as held by the National Archives, consisting of 11 pages.
