Project Blue Book Case File
Kildare, TexasDecember 1957
Summary
On December 7, 1957, residents in three Texas locations reported seeing unusual objects in the sky. The Air Force recorded these sightings as part of Project Blue Book, its official investigation into unidentified flying objects.
In Kildare, Texas, a witness observed a triangular object about six feet across at its widest point and fifteen feet long, tapering to a point at the bottom. The object was silver colored and moved slowly toward the northeast while rising into the air. The sighting lasted roughly twenty minutes. A second report from the same general area described a cigar shaped object fifteen feet long, pointed at both ends, also silver in color. This object made no sound and showed no exhaust as it traveled.
Near Shreveport, Louisiana, another witness spotted a cigar or rocket shaped object that was silver and glowing. The object had a number of knobs or protrusions on its sides, produced no exhaust or sound, and appeared to rotate as it moved eastward across the sky. This observation lasted about ten minutes. The Air Force noted that it received insufficient information from this sighting for a thorough evaluation.
All three reports came to the Air Force through the Shreveport Ground Operations Center Filter Center (a radar and observation post that collected UFO reports from civilians and military personnel). The Air Force concluded that the Kildare sightings were probably balloons, though it marked the Shreveport sighting as unidentified due to lack of detail. The complete case file, totaling seven pages as held by the National Archives, is reproduced below.
