Summary

On September 23, 1955, at about 0140Z, a civilian saw an object over Kankakee, Illinois. The sighting lasted about ten minutes.

The witness described one spherical object that changed colors. It appeared very high in the northwest and then disappeared in the same spot. The light faded and then disappeared completely. The object stayed stationary.

The Air Force concluded the sighting was probably a fixed searchlight. Officers noted that with an almost total overcast, the object was likely seen at or below the cloud level. The fact that the light faded and then disappeared supported the searchlight idea. The card lists the evaluation as other: possibly searchlight.
