Summary

In June 1957, a pilot flying over Iran spotted an unusual object in the sky. The object appeared in sight for only 15 seconds as the aircraft passed by. The pilot described it as having a center that glowed white with orange around the edges, and it appeared as a solid line across the sky. The unidentified object was heading toward the aircraft from the opposite direction and was flying at a slightly higher altitude.

The Air Force investigators noted that the sighting was brief but that a pilot observing from an aircraft would normally have good visibility for spotting objects in the sky. They suggested the object might have been a meteor, though they acknowledged that the duration of the sighting was longer than typical for a meteor. The file indicates that limited data was collected and no additional information was obtained to clarify what the pilot saw.

The Air Force classified this case as unknown. The full case file, consisting of 7 pages as held by the National Archives, is reproduced below.
