Summary

On February 18, 1953, a civilian sighting of a light was reported near Reykjavik, Iceland. The report came from Iceland Air Defense Force at Keflavik Airport. Three men saw a bright light at Melrakkasletta in northern Iceland.

The light was low and traveled toward the southeast. It was not steady. It faded and brightened several times. It was watched for about 10 minutes. The report gave no information about altitude, speed, or color.

The sighting first appeared in a local newspaper, which is why it reached intelligence officers late. There were no photos and no physical evidence. The Air Force listed the cause as insufficient data for evaluation.
