Summary

On the evening of January 2, 1958, in Huntsville, Alabama, two civilians reported a single bright object in the sky. The sighting lasted about 2 seconds. They described a very bright, white ball, brighter and larger than the planet Venus. It was white at the start and turned greenish toward the end. There was no breakup. The object moved to the northwest. The report was gathered by a local astronomical group and passed through Army channels to the Air Force. The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force concluded the object was a meteor.
