Project Blue Book Case File
Huntington, West VirginiaNovember 1957
Summary
On November 1, 1957, a civilian woman in Huntington, West Virginia, reported an object near her home around 5:30 p.m. She was interviewed weeks later by Air Force investigators. She said a noise outside led her to go look, and she saw an object resting on her house.
She described the object as about the size of an automobile, shaped like two metallic half spheres joined off center. She said a small steady red light was at the axis of the lower half, which appeared to revolve or vibrate. She first heard a crash, then a sound like a jet engine, then a beeping noise. She said the object rose straight up and was out of sight in about one minute. As it rose, a downdraft of air blew leaves and twigs around her yard, though the weather was otherwise calm.
Local weather offices reported no unusual weather or celestial activity that night and calm winds. The witness said she delayed reporting out of fear of ridicule. This case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force listed the witness as an unreliable observer.
