Insufficient Data

Summary

On the night of January 3, 1958, in Houston, Texas, a civilian and his wife reported a single star-like object low in the northwestern sky. They saw it slowly descending near a bright star in a constellation. The object had the brightness of a first-magnitude star and dimmed as it sank, disappearing behind treetops. The witness said it did not appear to be burning and was not a meteor or a weather balloon. The report came in a letter sent to a magazine, which forwarded it to the Air Force. The letter also described two later sightings on January 12 and 14. The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force said that without photographs, exact times, and accurate angles, the sighting could not be firmly identified. For the January 3 object, the case was considered to have insufficient data.
