Summary

On March 6, 1963, witnesses near Houston, Texas, reported a cylindrical object in daylight. The sighting was at about 11:55 a.m. local time. The object was light blue with an orange nose and was estimated up to 50 feet long. Splinters or small pieces seemed to fall from its sides. The main witness was a civilian rated as an excellent observer.

The object moved from south to north in an arcing path, first seen 30 to 40 degrees above the horizon and disappearing instantly to the north. It was visible for about 4 seconds. Two pilots taxiing aircraft at Houston International Airport saw a similar object at the same time, and one thought it was a meteor.

The Air Force, in its Project 10073 record, noted that satellite tracking showed no decay at that time. Checks with the local radar squadron, pilots, the weather station, and space officials were negative for known traffic. The case was evaluated as astronomical, meteor, with the description and duration consistent with a meteor.
