Summary
On September 29, 1952, at 9:05 p.m. local time, a civilian man at Pearl Harbor Navy Yard, Hawaii, reported a black, circular object over Hickam Air Force Base. He estimated it was about four feet in diameter, moving in a straight course in a westerly direction toward the ocean. He estimated its speed at 300 to 400 mph, similar to a jet fighter, with altitude unknown.
The object was watched for about two to three seconds before it disappeared. There were no sounds, lights, trails, or exhaust, and no aerodynamic features or method of propulsion could be seen. The man first noticed it at the base of a white cloud that appeared close to the moon. He did not see any aircraft at the time, but saw at least one aircraft over the area about 5 to 10 minutes later.
The cloud layer was about 3,000 feet with broken overcast. The man was a civilian employee with some experience watching conventional aircraft and said his vision was normal. The preparing officer noted that it was dark at that hour and placed little confidence in the report, saying the object at that distance and time of day could not be verified. The record card lists the conclusion as insufficient data.
