Summary

On November 6, 1957, witnesses at Hereford, Texas, reported a light in the sky around midnight. The report reached the Air Force through a letter from a local attorney. The sighting lasted only a few seconds.

The light moved at a very high rate of speed from north to south. It was about the size of a football. The witness said it did not look very high but was brighter than usual and traveled in a straight course. The attorney's letter also mentioned other reports from the same period near Levelland, Palo Duro Canyon, and White Sands, including an account of a vehicle whose engine and lights failed as an object passed overhead, giving off heat.

This case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force replied that the reported sightings in the Levelland area produced complex and variable data that needed more study, and sent the witness a questionnaire. The card lists the conclusion as a meteor, which the witness himself believed it to be.
