Summary

On January 27, 1957, a civilian on the ground at Hellenburg, Germany, reported a single object. The case was logged under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The object was ball shaped, an intense black and white, with a fiery red trail.

The object moved on a downward arc from about 70 degrees to 20 degrees and was watched for only three to four seconds. The witness said it exploded before it hit the ground. The object headed toward the northwest.

The Air Force concluded that everything in the report pointed to a bolide, which is a bright fireball meteor.
