Project Blue Book Case File
Englewood, OhioOctober 1956
Summary
On October 28, 1956, a fourteen-year-old boy in Englewood, Ohio, observed a solid pink object in the western sky at twilight. The boy estimated the object to be about 50 miles away and thought it was roughly 500 feet long. It had no wings, no protrusions, and left no vapor trail.
The object moved in a circling motion and returned to its original position during the sighting. The boy described the object as sharply outlined and said the sun was setting at the time. He watched it for about ten minutes, and the object remained visible when he reported it.
Air Force investigators noted that the object's circling maneuvers and the duration of the sighting were consistent with an aircraft sighting. The file does not explain what observers should look for to tell the difference between an aircraft and the object seen. The case was evaluated as "unknown" by the Air Force, though the form also notes "probably aircraft" as one possible conclusion. The reasoning behind the final evaluation is not clear in the available records.
