Summary

On March 24, 1956, a civilian Ground Observer Corps member at East Gary, Indiana, reported three objects. The report was made under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.

The observer saw three round objects, one in the north, one in the northeast, and one in the east, during a tour of duty that lasted about one and three-quarter hours. The objects seemed to stay still. They appeared to change colors at irregular intervals among green, orange, and red. They were seen through the window glass of the post. Photos were taken. When the observer went off duty, the objects were still in the same positions. The witness doubted that stars or planets caused the sighting because of the color changes.

The Air Force concluded that the source probably saw the planet Jupiter and two stars.
