Insufficient Data

Summary

On May 2, 1958, around 1:00 a.m., off eastern Spain, a military observer and two civilians reported a single object in the night sky. The sighting lasted about 1 minute and 20 seconds. The object looked like a shooting star and resembled a bright star, light in color. It appeared almost directly overhead and extremely high, with height that could not be measured. It moved in a straight path and disappeared to the southeast. The object's light faded out gradually. The observers had seen two shooting stars just before. The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force noted the sighting had the characteristics of an orbital, satellite-type observation, matching the visible track of a satellite in orbit at that time. The case was considered probably a satellite observation.
