Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, April 1952April 1952
Summary
On April 19, 1952, at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, a U.S. Air Force brigadier general reported an unidentified flying object. The sighting took place about 2120 local time (9:20 p.m.) while he was resting alone on his patio. The sky was clear and starlit with no moon.
The officer first thought he saw a shooting star, but the object was moving level to the ground at a steady altitude and on a constant course. It was white and made no sound. He judged its speed to be far greater than any jet aircraft, perhaps 1,000 to 1,200 miles per hour. He estimated the altitude between 10,000 and 20,000 feet.
As it neared, the glow appeared to break into two parts on the same level, like navigation lights on the wing tips of an aircraft. The object stayed in sight for about 5 to 6 seconds. The general wrote that he was familiar with aircraft, weather balloons, and other objects and was positive it was none of these. On the Air Force record card, the case was marked Possibly Astronomical.
