Summary

On July 18, 1958, three brothers, ages 14, 16, and 19, reported an unidentified flying object over downtown Detroit, Michigan, at about 2130 to 2150 (9:30 to 9:50 p.m.). They watched it from the back yard of their home. They described one round or disc-shaped object, light gray or silver in color, about the size of a dime held at arm's length. It had two light-colored spots on its sides. The object moved in a northerly direction and was visible for 15 to 25 minutes before passing overhead and disappearing behind clouds.

The witnesses heard no sound. Skies were partly cloudy but stars were visible. Air Force investigators interviewed two of the brothers and found their accounts vague. One brother said it could not have been a weather balloon, then later said it may have been like a balloon. The Air Force conclusion on the Project 10073 record card was that the sighting was probably a balloon observation. Project 10073 was the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
