Project Blue Book Case File
Decatur, Ill., February 1950February 1950
Summary
This file centers on a sighting reported by a woman from Minnesota who wrote to the Air Force about an object she and her husband saw while driving in Florida on a trip. The OCR of her handwritten letter is fragmentary, but it describes a daytime sighting around early afternoon, with the object appearing silver and flashing. The record card lists the time as between about 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and the color as a silver flash, with size and altitude compared to an aircraft. The Air Force acknowledged her letter on March 9, 1950, and said it would be forwarded to the office handling such matters.
The file also includes a newspaper clipping in which a Navy commander said he believed flying saucers were real spacecraft, and a master list of reported sightings for March 1950 from many locations with their Air Force evaluations. Because the witness's own account is only partly readable, the clearest record is that a civilian reported a silver, flashing object during a daytime drive, which the Air Force logged and forwarded for review.
