Summary

On September 4, 1952, near Death Valley, California, Flight Gunner Gayle L. Moreland observed a round ball of bright yellow light with an exposed gun camera film. The ball of light appeared to be in the wake of a moisture moisture layer. The light appeared to move away and toward the aircraft and changed in size. The sighting occurred at 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. from 30 degrees 30 minutes north, 115 degrees west to 30 degrees 0 minutes north, 115 degrees 30 minutes west, with the aircraft at 25,000 feet. The aircrews reporting the observation believed it to be a reflection of the sun off the moisture layer but submitted a report because of similarities to other unusual sightings. The evaluation was inconclusive due to insufficient data.
