Project Blue Book Case File
DAYTON OHIO, July 1952 - Incident Number: [ILLEGIBLE]July 1952
Summary
The OCR quality of this file is severely degraded, making most pages illegible. However, Pages 7 and 8 contain an Air Intelligence Information Report that is readable and provides the substantive details of this case.
In July 1952, a man named Stevenson, a recently discharged Air Force sergeant, and his neighbor made repeated sightings of an unusual object near Lockbourne Air Force Base, about 10 miles north of Columbus. The observers spotted the object on four separate occasions between July 17 and July 23. The object appeared as a circular, luminescent shape that sometimes glowed with orange and green colors. It moved side to side, often hovered in place for extended periods, and left a reddish trail as it departed. On the longest sighting, on Wednesday July 23, the object remained visible for two hours.
Both men watched the object using binoculars and the naked eye. They reported that when aircraft took off from or landed at Port Columbus, the object would vanish from sight. However, on July 23, when planes passed over it, the object remained visible and appeared as large as an airplane. The file notes that the weather on most observation dates was overcast with low cloud cover, except for July 23, which was clear. The observers could not explain what they had seen but were certain it was not a star. No physical evidence was recovered, and no interception or identification action was taken.
The full case file, including eight pages of forms, witness accounts, and intelligence evaluation, is reproduced below as held by the National Archives.
