Project Blue Book Case File

Dayton, OhioNovember 1957

Unidentified

Summary

On November 8, 1957, at approximately 1520 hours (3:20 p.m.), a person in Dayton, Ohio, observed an unusual object in the sky. The observer described it as slightly smaller than a dime, silvery white in color, and sharply outlined at first. When the observer looked at it a second time, it appeared fuzzy or blurred, with a cloth-like texture.

The object was visible for about 20 seconds. The observer reported that it faded out of vision, though the exact details of how it disappeared are difficult to determine from the file's handwritten notes. According to the questionnaire, there were seven military jets in the air at the time of the sighting.

In its evaluation, the Air Force noted in the case summary that the observer probably saw one of the jets that were flying in the area during the sighting. However, the official USAF conclusion marked on the form was "unidentified," meaning the Air Force could not definitively explain what the observer had seen. The case file contains 10 pages as held by the National Archives.
